IMPORTANT DATES:Thursday, September 4th – RTI Parent Information Night – 7:00 pm
Thursday, September 11th – Curriculum Night – 7:00 pm
Welcome to the beginning of another new and exciting year! Important information regarding snacks and birthday treats went home on Friday. Please look for this information.
Book Orders will go home. This is a very cheap way to buy books. Feel free to send in one check payable to Scholastic Books or cash. All book orders are due by Friday, September 5th.
The “Goody Drawers” will be used as a reward system in my homeroom. A student can earn a goody ticket by showing good behavior, remembering to get a signature when needed, showing good character, following directions, etc. Two students’ names will be drawn out of a container each day to pick out of a goody drawer. Donations throughout the year for stickers, pencils, and other small items of interest are always appreciated!
Curriculum Night is scheduled for Thursday, September 11th, starting at 7:00 p.m. in the multipurpose room. This is a very important evening that will highlight some important 4th grade information. You will have a chance to meet all of your child's teachers. I hope you can make it!
If you need to contact me, the easiest way is through email – tcushing@ccsd66.org
Science – We will begin with the introductory chapter. This will highlight information that students can use throughout the year. After each lesson there usually is a graded assignment. Reviewing the weekly lesson midweek is a good idea. We will go over Lesson 1 this week, “What are Tools for Inquiry”.
Social Studies – The class will begin their study of the Northeast Region (ch. 4). Students will have a region map quiz on Tuesday, September 16th. There will be no word bank and spelling counts. Students should start reviewing for this quiz daily.
Please visit the blog of your child's Reading teacher to find out information for Reading, Language Arts, and Spelling in that classroom.
Spelling - The first spelling test will be Friday. The list will always go home on Monday after the pretest. During four day weeks, there will be no pretest and the list will go home the Friday before. Your child was given their list on Friday. Have you seen it yet? If not, please ask your child about it.
Language Arts – Students will begin their Capitalization and Punctuation chapter (ch. 5).
Reading - Each student received their independent reading folder. The reading incentive program is optional but strongly encouraged. Your child must read 28 days in the month in order to make the reading party at the end of the month. I will explain more about this program on Curriculum Night. If you have not seen this folder yet, please ask your child about it.
Please visit the blog of your child's Math teacher to find out information for that Math class.
Math – Students are expected to know their multiplication and division facts upon entering fourth grade. This is very important. As a review, I will begin mad minutes this week. In addition, we will begin our study of Place Value (ch. 1).
