The Week of February 2nd-6th

IMPORTANT DATES:
Field trip permission slip and money due
February 2nd - 4th grade spelling bee – Good Luck Matt and Michael
February 5th – An all school multi-cultural assembly
February 6th – Movie Night
February 14th – Valentine's Day Party
February 20th - Great America Sheets are due

Science: The chapter 15 science test will be Friday. The test will cover lessons 1-3 only (not lesson 4). There is a lot of information to know. Please help your child study for this test.

Social Studies: We will finish chapter 8 this week. The social studies test will be “nextWednesday. Please help your child study for this test.

Spelling: The new spelling list will go home on Monday. Due to our fourth grade spelling bee on Monday, there will be no spelling pretest. The spelling test will be on Friday.

Language Arts: The Chapter 3 Verb test will be Thursday. There is a lot of information to know. Please help your child study for this test.

Reading: We will work on making inferences as we read,Tanya's Reunion. This can be a difficult area for some students. Please review inferences with your child. In addition, we will also continue to work on Drawing Conclusions.

The reading party is scheduled for Thursday. Please help your child remember their folder. Also, Great America Sheets are due in by February 20th. Please send them in once they are completed.

Math: This math news is for Mrs. Cushing's class only. Please check your child's math teacher's blog for news from their class. We will continue our study of Geometry (chapter 19). There is a lot of information to know. Please review the concepts daily. In addition, students need to bring a compass to school by Tuesday. The chapter 19 test will probably be "next" week.

The Week of January 26th-30th


IMPORTANT NEWS:
January 28th – Classroom Spelling Bee
Week of February 2nd - 4th grade spelling bee

Science: Students will continue their study of Electricity (chapter 15). There is a lot of information to know. Please review vocabulary words and concepts from lessons 1 and 2. Students will learn about Potential and Kinetic Energy (lesson 3).

Social Studies: We will continue our study of the Midwest Region (chapter 8). The Midwest Region's map quiz will be Wednesday. Please remember that spelling counts and there is no word bank!

Spelling: The new spelling list will go home on Monday. Please help your child prepare for the test Friday.

Language Arts: We will finish our study of verbs (chapter 3). This can be a difficult area for some students. Please help your child review the concepts. The Chapter 3 test will be sometime next week. Please check your child's assignment notebook later in the week for the exact date.

Reading: We will finish our work with Cause/Effect on Monday. We will work on fact vs. opinion statements as we read, Lou Gehrig. In addition, we will also work on Drawing Conclusions.

Math: This math news is for Mrs. Cushing's class only. Please check your child's math teacher's blog for news from their class. We will begin our study of Geometry (chapter 19). There is a lot of information to know. Please review the concepts daily. In addition, students need to bring a protractor to school by Tuesday.

The Week of January 19th-23rd


IMPORTANT NEWS:
January 20th – Inauguration Day – Wear red, white, and blue
January 21st – Practice Spelling Bee (in class)
January 28th – Classroom Spelling Bee

This week marks the midpoint of this trimester. If you have not checked your child's grades on line in a while, please make it a point to do so. There are six weeks left to this trimester.

Science: Students will continue their study of Electricity (chapter 15). There is a lot of information to know. Please review vocabulary words and concepts from lessons 1 and 2.

Social Studies: We will continue our study of the Midwest Region (chapter 8). The Midwest Region's map quiz will be Wednesday, January 28th. Please remember that spelling counts and there is no word bank!

Reading: As we read the story, Happy Birthday, Dr. King, we will work on Cause/Effect. This can be a difficult area for some students. Please review with your child at home. In addition, we will also work on Drawing Conclusions.

Math: This math news is for Mrs. Cushing's class only. Please check your child's math teacher's blog for news from their class. The chapter 7 test over Collecting and Organizing Data will be Wednesday. There is a lot of terminology to know. Please help your child review for the test.

The Week of January 12th-16th


IMPORTANT NEWS:
January 12th-16th – Iowa Testing – Please make sure all students eat a good breakfast each morning. In addition, please remember to send a healthy snack with your child each day.
Week of January 19th – Practice Spelling Bee
Week of January 26th – Real Classroom Spelling Bee
Week of February 2nd - 4th Grade Spelling Bee

Spelling bee words will be passed out on Monday. Each student gets one copy. Please do not lose this.


Science: Students will continue their study of Electricity this week (chapter 15). There is a lot of information to know. Please review vocabulary words and concepts from lesson 1.

Social Studies: Students will be introduced to the Midwest Region. Their Midwest Region Map quiz will be Wednesday, January 28th. Please remember there is no word bank and spelling counts!

Spelling: The new spelling list will go home on Monday. Your child will only be tested on 20 of the words. Please help your child prepare for the test Friday. There will be no pretest on Monday due to Iowa testing.

Language Arts: We will start our study of verbs (chapter 3).

Reading: We will spend some time reviewing cause & effect and fact vs. opinion. In addition, students will make comparisons across reading passages. Last, we will continue with Drawing Conclusions.

Math:This math news is for Mrs. Cushing's class only. Please check your child's math teacher's blog for news from their class. We will finish our study of Collecting and Organizing Data (chapter 7) this week. There is a lot of terminology to know. Please help your child review for the test. The test will be Wednesday, January 21st.
