December 2020
During remote learning, PE will look a bit different than the other subjects. PE will be completed all asynchronously. In the PV gym, we will have remote learners all day so therefore, I will be helping them. Please have your child go to my google classroom daily. There will be links that they can get up and follow. All the links together should take your child almost all of the 25 minutes. If you have any questions, please ask!

PE 2020-2021
This year PE looks very different! It is all about a movement break and getting the wiggles out during this time. Most of the time, we are able to get outside and take a mask break. YEAH!
We are not using any equipment unless we use our feet (balls). We are being VERY SAFE! We spend our time inside in boxes that are spaced apart. When outside, we have areas spaced out as well. I do remind the students often to stay in their spacing.
We are not having our normal PE units this year. We are focusing on foot skills and movement. Thank you to all of my students for following the new norm in PE this year.

March 2019
Kids Heart Challenge is in full swing. Please make sure and register your child online. If you do, they earn a bracelet to wear during our celebration day on March 26th. Thank you for doing this!
We are currently in our basketball unit. Study guides will go home next week. The online basketball assessment is planned for Wednesday, March 25th. Please have your child go over their study guide.
After spring break, we will get into our hockey unit. Third graders will learn PV hockey by playing scooter hockey. The fourth and fifth graders will be playing floor hockey. One student asked me if it was ice hockey. Wouldn't that be something?
As the weather gets warmer, please remember to stay active. It does the body good!

January 2020
Welcome to 2020! I hope everyone enjoyed their break. Third graders have a chance to sign up for another set of intramurals. This would be intramural basketball with Mrs. Sanchez. Permission slips went home Monday and they are due back by Tuesday, January 14th. If you have any questions, please let me know.
We will be starting our tennis unit on Monday. We will work on the basic skills that are needed to play a tennis game. Please ask your child about it as the unit goes on.

November 2019
We are finishing our Net Games Unit. Students have become familiar with how to play Newcombe, a catch and throw game, that teaches you volleyball rules. Study guides will be coming home with your child today or tomorrow. The 5th grade assessment is November 5th. The third and fourth graders will have their assessment on November 7th. Please help your child review for this assessment.
We will then start our dancing unit. Students will review some popular dances, as well as be introduced to some new ones. Please ask your child about them later in the month. The fifth graders will begin working in groups to develop their own dance. I hope this will be fun for them!
December will bring our bowling unit. At the end of this unit, the grade levels go to Bowlero for a field trip. This is completely free! Students will just need to bring back a permission slip that allows them go on the trip. If a child chooses to, they make order snacks. We do this ahead of time. I will send some information on this very soon.
Any questions? Please ask!

October 2019
Happy October!
Third graders see me FIRST thing in the morning. Chances are there will be dew on the grass at some point. The students will get their socks/shoes wet. It is a good idea for the third graders to bring an extra pair of shoes and socks for after PE. We do go outside weather permitting. We could potentially be outside until Columbus Day weekend.
Our soccer unit will be ending this week. The students have really enjoy being active by practicing the skills they have learned. Study guides will go this week. The first online assessment will be Tuesday, October 8th. Please help your child review for this online assessment. There will be ten questions.
Fitness testing for fourth and fifth graders are happening this month. Third graders will "practice" the fitness testing however, formal scores will not be taken until fourth grade. The fitness tests include the pacer, the sit and reach, the curl up test, and the push up test. The goal is to have your child in the healthy fitness zone for their age group by time they reach ten years old. There is no data for before that age.
After fitness testing, we will go into our Net Games unit.
Any questions? Please ask!

September 2019
It was so nice to see so many of you at the Open House. I enjoyed catching up with past students, as well as meeting our new incoming third graders. We are going to have a GREAT year!
I realize that teaching your child is a privilege, as well as a tremendous responsibility. I ensure that each student will have a motivating and safe learning experience in the gym. I look forward to working with your child this year. Gym shoes are a must each day. This is for the safety of your child. If your child does not wear gym shoes to school, please send a pair in. Students must have gym shoes on in order to participate!
During the first few days we will go through rules and expectations for PE class and recess. By next week, we will get right into some team building activities that we can build on throughout the year. We will focus on safety, cooperation, communication, and trust.
Third graders see me FIRST thing in the morning. Chances are there will be dew on the grass at some point.
The students might get their socks/shoes wet. It is a good idea for the third graders to bring an extra pair of shoes and socks for after PE. We do go outside weather permitting. This can usually go well into October.
Intramurals coming soon! Please read Mrs. Tannhauser's blast for information in the upcoming weeks.
Please remember that Curriculum Night is coming up Wednesday night. I hope to see many of you there!

May 2019
For the remainder of the school year, what we do in PE will depend upon the weather! We started our Recreational Games unit this week. Students are getting familiar with Shuffleboard, Four Square, Bags, Hopscotch, and Team Walkers. When we are inside for PE, we will be involved in this unit. When we are fortunate enough to get outside, we will be in our kickball unit. I love the month of May once it stops raining!
When we do finally have a break in the weather, remember hats and sunscreen!

March 2019
Students will be finishing their basketball unit this month. In addition, we will begin our fitness testing prior to spring break. We will come back after spring break to start hockey.
Fourth and fifth graders have the opportunity to sign up for their last intramurals of the year. This would be called Games. It is kind of like another PE class. Each time students come, they will be active in a different game. Ms. Donar, a fifth grade teacher will be in charge of this session. Permission slips are due by Tuesday. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask!
Students do need to have gym shoes here daily. This can be difficult when wearing boots. Please know that this counts in a daily PE grade. Please help your child remember their shoes!
If your child will be out of PE for more than one day, please remember a doctor's note is needed. Any questions with this? Please talk to our wonderful nurse, Mrs. Baek.

February 2019
Welcome to February! Students are well into their tennis unit. Third and fourth graders spend their time working on their skills playing various games on the court. Fifth graders get into playing real games and scoring. Please ask your child about it. We are so fortunate to be able to have this unit in PE. Study guides for this assessment will go home by the end of this week. The tennis assessment will be held on Wednesday, February 13th. We will begin our basketball unit on February 19th.
Looking ahead: We will be introducing Kids Heart Challenge to our students on March 4th (formally Jump Rope for Heart). More information will be coming home. Our celebration day in the gym for Kids Heart Challenge will be Thursday, March 21st. Stay tuned!

Welcome Back! I hope everyone had a wonderful break! Students at Prairieview came back to PE this week starting an indoor unit in tennis. Third grade students will be introduced to the get ready position, the forehand and backhand swing, the volley, and the serve. Fourth graders will review the above positions. They will also have an opportunity to practice their skills playing various lead up games to tennis. Fifth graders will be introduced to playing the game of tennis in both a singles and doubles game while scoring. It is an exciting time for the students. Please ask your child about it later in the month.
The third graders will have a chance to sign up for intramural basketball with Mrs. Sanchez. Permission slips are going home today (January 8th). They are due back by the end of the week. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask!

November 2018
The students just had their Net Games assessment on Newcombe. Next week, the students will start their dance unit. The fifth graders will have an opportunity to work in groups to develop their own dance. I can't wait to see their final product!
We will be starting our bowling unit in December. We will end the unit with a bowling PE field trip to Brunswick Zone. Students will be receiving a permission slip for bowling PE field trip scheduled for the end of December. This field trip is FREE. If students would like to purchase a snack, cash and the exact amount is due prior to the Thanksgiving break. This gives me enough time to go through all the orders and pre-order at the bowling alley prior to our field trip. If you have any questions, please ask!
As the colder weather approaches and student's are wearing boots, please make sure they bring their gym shoes daily.
